Anthropocene

Anthropocene is generally described as an idea of a new geological epoch in which human activity is considered to have a powerful impact on the environment, climate and ecology of the planet and will leave a long-term signature on the Earth.

We are inviting audience and artists to reflect upon what signature it would be.

In the light of recent developments in technology, human impact on the world and globalization, the idea of the Anthropocene asks hard questions of us. It requires that we imagine our common future and see beyond a human lifetime or generation. We need to see this new era in the perspective of the eras of the Earth that extend both behind and ahead of the present.

Yet as the notion of a world beyond us has become more challenging to predict in a rapidly changing world, a need has grown for new reflections and narratives that might help us understand and define our common future. What this future will be, depends on us now more than ever. And this responsibility does not only lead to dystopian scenarios, but also to positive and creative ideas and changes. In this way, the idea of a new era, the Anthropocene, opens for imagination, new ideas, new images and new perspectives.
